Stagg, Amos Alonzo

Stagg, Amos Alonzo
(16 ago. 1862, West Orange, N.J., EE.UU.–17 mar. 1965, Stockton, Cal.).

Entrenador estadounidense de equipos universitarios de fútbol americano. Jugó de defensa en la Universidad de Yale y en 1889 fue elegido para el primer equipo All-America (selección de los mejores del país). Durante sus 41 años de permanencia en la Universidad de Chicago (1892–1932), concibió la jugada de "end-around, el hombre en movimiento, el huddle (grupo que forman los jugadores para coordinar la siguiente jugada, invento también adjudicado a otro entrenador), el cambio simultáneo de posición de dos jugadores y el muñeco de entrenamiento para los tackles. Después dirigió en otras tres universidades y no se jubiló sino hasta 1960. Sus 71 años como entrenador representan la más larga carrera técnica de la historia de este deporte. Murió a los 102 años.
